Two years after Tarek El Moussa was diagnosed with thyroid cancer, the HGTV star is about to become a father for the second time.
The 33-year-old Flip Or Flop host and his co-host wife, Christina, 31, announced via Instagram on Monday that they were expecting a baby boy.
'SO excited to announce Taylor is going to be a big sister!!!!! Our Baby BOY is due in August! #20Weeks' Christina wrote just one day before her show's season three premiere.
Expecting: Flip Or Flop stars Tarek and Christina El Moussa (above, with daughter Taylor) announced on Monday that they were having a second child
According to an interview Tarek and Christina gave to People, it has been a tough road to get to this point.
'I had to be super strict,' Christina said of the IVF treatments needed to get pregnant with the couple's second child.
'I had to do one full week in bed. For 13 weeks after that, I couldn't go for a walk and couldn't lift anything over a gallon of milk.'
Tough road: Expected in August, the couple's upcoming baby boy was conceived almost two years after Tarek (left) was diagnosed with thyroid cancer
It was the third time the couple had tried to get pregnant this way in the two years since Tarek's cancer diagnosis.
Because of his treatment - which included sterilisation-inducing radioactive iodine therapy - a simple pregnancy wasn't an option to produce a younger sibling for the family's three-year-old daughter, Taylor.
Now that Christina has become pregnant, the whole family has gotten excited about the prospect of its new member.
'Super strict': Needing to conceive via IVF, Christina couldn't carry heavy objects for many weeks in order to become pregnant
'She talks to him in my tummy all the time,' Christina said of Taylor's reaction to getting a sibling.
'She'll say, I love you baby brother, am I being a nice big sister today? I'm not gonna change your poopy diaper!'
As for Tarek, he already had plans for his boy, explaining jokingly to People that his son was 'going to run the family business one day.'
'The second he gets old enough, I'm going to step back from work and focus on raising them,' said the Flip Or Flop star.
Rising stars: Now going into its third season, Flip Or Flop - a home-improvement and real-estate show - has proven a ratings hit
It was possibly the television show that saved Tarek's life in 2013.
A registered nurse named Ryan Read was watching a Flip Or Flop marathon that spring when she noticed there was a lump on Tarek's neck.
She immediately contacted the HGTV show's production company to explain that Tarek had 'a large nodule on his thyroid, and he needs to have it checked out,' as Christina told People in 2013.
Saved by the show: Thanks to a tip from an alert Flip Or Flop fan, Tarek's cancer was caught, leading to radiation treatment in the summer of 2013
In June, that nodule turned out to be cancer.
Throughout the health issues and the pregnancy, both Tarek and Christina have kept busy with Flip Or Flop.
Going into its season 3 premiere on Tuesday, the home-improvement and real estate show has earned as many as 2 million viewers per episode.
Back again: Season 3 of Flip Or Flop premieres on Tuesday, just one day after the couple's pregnancy announcement
